Main purpose of the role

This position provides a challenging opportunity to develop software for our esteemed UK based client.

As a developer, responsibilities include:

• Delivery of software in one of several teams using Agile practices to deliver business value in a short iteration, high value first, reliable manner.

• Discussion of requirements, design and testing issues with the business users.

• Working across all aspects of the application suite to provide a balanced view of the applications and the businesses they serves.

• Working with other members of the team and bringing previous experiences of technology to contribute to the team's solutions.

• Liaising with support teams to assist in diagnosing and resolving production issues.

Required Skill and Experience

• A hands on developer with a can do attitude i.e. knows how to “write code” in a structured development process.

• Is willing to accept change, is both pragmatic and a self starter.

• Can demonstrate an active passion in technology (keeping up-to-date with technology developments, open-source projects etc).

• Takes an active interest in their role and the wider uses of the software they produce.

The successful candidate should have:

• Strong Java (3 years minimum) including Ant, Cruise Control, JUnit, and JDBC.

• Advanced understanding of server-side java programming. Sensitivity to system performance, stability, scalability and fault tolerance. Ability to create next generation GUI and interactive models.

• Experience in subversion, continuous integration, Linux, test driven and agile development.

• Strong knowledge of relational database systems with proficiency in logical data modelling

• Strong problem solving, leadership, communication and documentation skills

• Previous success building, mentoring and leading a cross-functional peer/consultant development teams

• Degree from a recognised university.

• Minimum 2.5 years experience in PHP, MySQL, OOPS, LAMP technologies and ORM, AJAX, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, DHTML, xHTML, XML and associated editing programs.

• Advanced understanding of scripting. Sensitivity to system performance, stability, scalability and fault tolerance. Ability to create next generation GUI and interactive models. Integrate presentation layer with elegant back-end solutions for high volume websites.

• Experience in subversion, continuous integration, Linux, test driven and agile development.

• Strong knowledge of relational database systems (MySQL experience preferred) with proficiency in logical data modelling
